Opening marks Sun Valley’s first luxury hotel and residences
Viceroy will open a new resort in Idaho’s Rocky Mountains in June 2026.
The Harriman, A Viceroy Resort, will be located in downtown Ketchum in the resort town of Sun Valley, known for ski areas such as Bald Mountain. The property will mark Sun Valley’s first luxury hotel and residences.
The alpine resort will feature 73 guest rooms and 12 single-level penthouse residences for sale, each with views of Idaho’s Rocky Mountains. Facilities are set to include a full-service spa and fitness centre with six treatment rooms, an indoor thermal pool, steam room, cold plunge and sauna.
A “mountain-modern” food and beverage programme will include a full-service restaurant, a cafe and ski concierge, and a seasonal terrace and bar. Viceroy said menus would celebrate local purveyors and Idaho-grown beef, dairy and fish.
A standout feature of the resort will be the rooftop observatory and terrace bar which will provide access to the Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve – the first preserve of its kind in the US.
Viceroy said the name of the property was a tribute to W. Averill Harriman, chairman of the Union Pacific Railroad, who was heavily involved in the establishment of the Sun Valley Resort in 1936, with a vision of emulating Europe’s winter sports destinations.
Mark Keiser, president of development at Viceroy, said: “Sun Valley is synonymous with American alpine heritage, and we are honoured to celebrate that legacy through the Viceroy lens. This project exemplifies modern luxury defined by deep connection to place, thoughtful design and immersive experiences.”
Andrew Blank, majority owner of the project, added: “The Harriman is a tribute to Sun Valley’s past, but it’s also shaping its future. We want to honour this place’s history while creating something lasting for generations to come. My family has been connected to Sun Valley for over 50 years, and The Harriman is a celebration of Mr Harriman’s legacy and a way to reimagine it for a new generation.”
The Harriman, A Viceroy Resort, builds on the brand’s global growth of “high-end outdoor destinations”, following the opening of Viceroy at Ombria Algarve last October.
