Airline urges agents to interact only with verified channels amid on-going Middle East crisis
An alert has been issued to agents over fraudsters impersonating Qatar Airways seeking personal information amid the Middle East crisis.
The airline, which is among Gulf carriers forced to ground flights following the joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran and retaliatory attacks since Saturday, issued a notice warning of the scam.
The carrier said: “We are aware of fraudulent accounts impersonating Qatar Airways and requesting personal information.
“Qatar Airways will never ask for passwords, OTPs, banking details or other sensitive information via socal media or direct messages.
“Please interact only with our verified official channels: qatarairways.com or the Qatar Airways app.”
Advantage Travel Partnership chief executive Julia Lo Bue-Said warned members of the consortium to beware.
She said: “Qatar Airways have highlighted fraudulent accounts preying on the desperate situation whilst impersonating Qatar Airways.
“Please be wary of what you’re posting online, including posting. Booking references and phone numners, even in travel forums and groups.
“Unfortunately in difficult times like these there will always be individuals trying to take advantage.
“Please double-check that you are communbiating only through official channels and what you’re sharing.”
