Tengile MalaMala Collection’s sixth property to open in December
A new portfolio of owner-led luxury safari camps and lodges has launched in South Africa.
Tengile MalaMala Collection currently features five properties along a 12-mile stretch of the Sand River in Sabi Sand and MalaMala Game Reserve, with a sixth flagship location due to debut this December.
The new Khensani River Lodge will comprise a main house with dining spaces, a spa, library and swimming pool, as well as nine standalone suites boasting private pools and viewing decks.
Already open are nine-suite Tengile River Lodge on the banks of the Sand River (pictured), eight-suite Rattray Lodge showcasing heritage-led luxury, and 1920s Kirkman’s Kamp with 12 semi-detached cottages.
MalaMala Camp incorporates 10 luxury suites, eight bedrooms and one single suite, and is joined by sister property Sable Camp, offering seven suites for a more intimate stay.
Guests at all the properties can enjoy open-fire dining on riverside decks, private in-suite terraces or candlelit bomas, and can unwind with in-suite massages, spa treatments and private yoga.
Each location offers twice-daily game drives and bush walks, along with guided runs through the bush and catch-and-release fishing.
Children can experience interactive bush walks and basic survival skills training at MalaMala Camp and Kirkman’s Kamp.
The collection’s MalaMala Foundation supports education, skills development, enterprise growth and infrastructure in local communities.
The portfolio also works to protect the nearby rhino population with closer monitoring and increased ranger presence.
Guests can get involved with conservation efforts by joining the annual rhino dehorning – a process designed to reduce poaching threats.
The collection’s co-owner Savannah Saad said: “Our story is inseparable from this land – its wildlife, its rhythms and the Shangaan community who have shaped it over generations.
“Here, family and community are one. We are quiet custodians, holding this place in trust with humility, care and deep respect.”
