A number of flights were diverted or cancelled
Flights from Dubai International Airport were suspended earlier today (Monday) after a reported “drone incident” affected a fuel tank.
Dubai Airports confirmed the "gradual resumption" of some flights to selected destinations following the temporary suspension.
The suspension was introduced as a “precautionary measure” to ensure the safety of all passengers and staff as the Iran war entered its third week.
The situation was described by Dubai Civil Defence teams as being under control with no spread of fire or reported injuries.
Some flights were diverted to Dubai’s Al Maktoum International Airport, according to the government of Dubai.
Emirates said it expected to operate a limited schedule after 10am local time.
The airline said: “Unfortunately, some flights from today’s schedule have been cancelled. Affected customers will receive a cancellation notice and will be advised on re-accommodation options. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
The Foreign Office upated its travel advice for the United Arab Emirates on Sunday to say: “With commercial flights resuming to the UK from UAE we are pausing our ‘register your interest in flights from UAE’ scheme.
“If you are still in UAE and need to get back to the UK, please check availability with the commercial airlines.”
It warned thart regional escalation “poses significant security risks” and has led to travel disruption.
The advisory added: “Stay away from areas around security or military facilities and US or Israeli government facilities.
“Iran continues to strike civilian infrastructure across the region such as hotels, roads, bridges, energy facilities, financial institutions, oil production sites, water systems, and airports.
“Follow the instructions of the local authorities and monitor local and international media for the latest information.”
