Anantara to expand India portfolio with two properties

Anantara Hotels & Resorts is set to expand its portfolio in India with the opening of two new properties.

Scheduled to open in 2028, Anantara Zanti Coorg Resort will be situated in the hillside town of Madikeri in southern India’s Coorg.

Set within the Unesco-recognised Western Ghats mountain range, the 69-key resort will “draw on the region’s natural landscapes, coffee heritage and Kodava culture”.

It will feature four dining venues, a pool, lobby lounge, library, spa, fitness studio and kids’ club.

Founder and chairman of Anantara’s parent company Minor International, William Heinecke, said: “Coorg’s natural beauty exemplifies India’s potential for experiential luxury and is ideal for the Anantara brand. The upcoming Anantara Zanti Coorg Resort will showcase our vision of creating distinctive stays that honour local culture, immersing guests in the destination’s vibrant nature and tradition.”

Elsewhere, Anantara Kolkata Hotel will be the first development within the upcoming World Trade Centre Salt Lake Kolkata.

Slated to open in 2032, the 170-key property is “designed to serve the city’s growing business, meeting and events demand”.

The hotel will feature two restaurants, a lobby lounge, wellness centre, gym, swimming pool and meeting and event spaces.

Heinecke said: “Signing Anantara Kolkata as our first urban Anantara in India represents an important step in our growth in the country and reflects the brand’s versatility across both city and resort settings. We look forward to partnering with Aryan Realty and Merlin Group to deliver a hotel that fits the scale and ambition of the World Trade Centre development.”

Anantara made its debut in India last year with Anantara Jewel Bagh Jaipur, while sister brand Avani will also expand to the region in 2028 with the opening of Avani Sunray Beach Visakhapatnam Resort.

A statement from Minor Hotels said the group is “steadily progressing” towards its target of 50 properties within the next decade, led by its luxury and premium brands, Anantara, Avani and NH Collection.
